About Me:
Elizabeth Calzada

My Story

I am an elementary teacher with a passion for learning and progress. I have been teaching for nine years and have started venturing into the world of learning design and technology with an eagerness to create and share my portfolio.

I believe learning should be accessible and engaging. Much of today's curriculum does not align with student needs or interests. This often leads to teacher and student disengagement. To quote Uncle Ben from Spider-Man, "With great power comes great responsibility," and with the knowledge I will gain on my journey, it will be my responsibility to share my knowledge with others.

My Professional Identity

As an instructional designer, I see myself as a creative, collaborative, and purpose-driven educator who values clarity, empathy, and real-world impact. My professional identity is rooted in nearly a decade of classroom experience, where I learned the importance of designing learning that is both engaging and immediately applicable. These experiences shape my approach—I design with the learner in mind, always striving to make content accessible, meaningful, and supportive of autonomy.

Guided by adult learning theory and a commitment to equity, I view instructional design as a tool for empowerment. I believe that learning should be flexible, human-centered, and respectful of diverse experiences. I bring curiosity, attention to detail, and a belief that even small design decisions can have a big impact.

I want to be recognized within the instructional design community as someone who bridges theory and practice—someone who creates elegant, evidence-based learning experiences that honor the learner’s time, context, and goals. Instructional design, for me, is not about delivering content—it's about designing change.
